Schedule of visits and events

The Commission is keen to hear from anyone with an interest in nursing education and Lord Willis is engaged in a programme of UK visits.

All visits undertaken by Lord willis have been organised by commission panel members and with one exception are being hosted  by the panel members themselves.

6 July 2012, Dundee University

On this visit Lord Willis met nursing students, practice education facilitators, lecturers and representatives from NHS health boards and Nurse Education Scotland.

16 July 2012, Huddersfield University

This visit in the busy graduation week was an opportunity for Lord Willis to meet patients, carers and lecturers. He visited a primary care social enterprise and undertook a clinical visit with a community nurse and a nursing student.

26 July, Cardiff

Lord Willis and panel members took this opportunity to meet with representatives from the Community Health Council and patient representatives, directors of nursing, deans, tutors and students from Swansea University, Cardiff University and the University of Glamorgan, and health care support workers from the Aneurin Bevin Local Health Board.

10 September, Northern Ireland

12 September, Oxford

Northern Ireland and Oxford were further opportunities for Lord Willis to meet a wide range of stakeholders keen to tell him about nurse education. He met students, lecturers, deans of nursing, carers and patients. Accompanied by Commission panel members he was able to hear from those with a real passion and interest in nurse education how they felt not only about new developments in curricula but also the process of becoming a nurse. As with other visits around the UK these useful events have enabled Lord Willis to further inform the report he and his Commission members are developing.
